The patient became septic and suffered multiple organ failure, including the kidneys that did not fully recover. She was forced to adapt her daily routine around hemodialysis then peritoneal dialysate. For the eighteen days she spent in Hospital, the life of her was changed for the better. Angelica had been in dialysis for nearly a year until she finally was able to undergo the most important operation of her existence, a kidney transplant. Her mother would be the organ donor. In September 2013, Angelica as well as her mother underwent the successful transplantation of their kidney at two amazing hospitals located close to one another- the University Hospital of Memory and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston.
